I love this blanket from “little woolie”

all impatiens

The other day I started making something from t-shirt yarn, turned out to be a great dish dryer. Soft cotton cushion with open spaces for air to circulate.
It took the bottom half of 5 large cotton t shirts, the kind with no side seams. Cut in 1/2″ wide bands.
Stretched the bands to make them curl up round.

Made the “yarn” by looping the loops together (remember in school looping rubber bands together to make a chain?) and crocheting the two stranded “yarn” with a huge hook.
Worked up as a single crochet through the top two loops. What my grandmother called a “rose stitch”.
The colors are bright enough to think spring. Three pinks, white and peacock blue. The color of impatiens. Good title as that’s me — all impatience.

Made up thick soft and cushiony. Pretty fun.
Heart bowl

So I got into the heart thing. Several patterns later, I decided to use this gorgeous blue rayon ribbon to make a heart shaped bowl.
I took a pattern intended to make a flat heart shaped ornament, then simply worked sc around in each stitch till the sides came out tall enough to suit me. Any heart pattern will work this way.
I converted the pattern I had, to begin with a magic ring. Here it goes:

Tada! its a heart.

This heart pattern had three rows to expand it which gave me a nice size base.
Then it was single crochet up the sides.

I lost track of the rows of single crochets, just did it till it looked right,
I love love the look. Perfect soft to keep rings safe on the counter.
Howsomever… the rayon ribbon has absolutely no stretch, so it was not fun to crochet. I tend to work a bit tight as it is, and the ribbon was just unforgiving. So I’m still thinking what i want to make out of these several bolts of beautiful blue I have waiting.
Meanwhile, give me a nice soft wool please. 🙂
crochet basket

Made a little basket in cream wool. Took a couple hours. Pleasant pastime.
Began with a magic circle, ch1
1st row, 6 sc in the magic circle
draw magic circle to close tight.
mark the start of the next row with a stitch marker
2nd row increase every stitch: sc twice into each of the stitches in the previous round, thus increasing to 12 stitches for this round
mark the row with your stitch marker
3rd row increase every other stitch. sc twice in to the first stitch, sc once in the next stitch, repeat this alternating 2sc in one stitch with 1 sc in the next.
mark the row with your stitch marker
4th row increase every third stitch. sc twice in the first stitch, sc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch. repeat: 2sc, sc, sc to the stitch marker.
each row gets one more sc between the 2sc,
Once the base is the right size, just work without any more increases to create the sides. I used a stitch called the counterpane stitch found here.
It’s a half double crochet, worked through both the top loops.
– yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all three loops on the hook.-
because I worked in the round rather than back and forth, it turned out a bit different.
Here is a closeup of how the stitch looks when worked in the round.
Finished the top edge with a row of slip stitches.
I think I’ll felt it next. Just to see what that does.
